Nwoya gets first High Court Criminal Session

In a first of its kind, the head of Gulu High Court Circuit, Hon. Justice Phillip Odoki, is holding a High Court Criminal Session in Nwoya where 40 cases are being handled.
The Court's Deputy Registrar, HW George Obong, said the court session is handling cases that arise from Amuru and Nwoya magistrates' courts.
He noted that the month-long session will handle the following cases; Aggravated Defilement (20),Murder (18), Rape (11) and one Aggravated Robbery case.
During a stakeholders' meeting in Nwoya, Justice Odoki stressed the need for improved physical access to justice which fosters the realization of speedy trial.
He underscored the issue of organizing civil sessions to handle land matters which form the bulk of civil cases filed within the circuit.
The meeting was attended by Judicial Officers, civic leaders and members of the community as well as representatives from justice institutions.
